Geelong chocoholics are in for a treat, with plans unveiled to open a massive chocolate estate on the Bellarine Peninsula.

A planning application lodged with the City of Greater Geelong revealed the bid to build a chocolaterie, restaurant-slash-cafe, 12 farm stay cabins, children’s farm, berry gardens and an apple orchard on a 234,000sq m plot of land on Point Richards Rd on the western outskirts of Portarlington.

The major development plans, lodged by planners for The Bellarine Chocolate Co, will transform the heritage-overlay covered site of the former Lincoln’s Farm House by building a series of new structures, while also refurbishing the former dairy building and undertaking ‘generous’ revegetation works.

“The chocolaterie building will be located within the southern section of the site closest towards the intersection of Portarlington Rd and Point Richards Rd,” planning documents noted.

“The building will serve for multiple purposes which include the manufacturing of chocolate, a retail sale component from the manufacturing of the chocolate on site, and a restaurant to further showcase the chocolate manufactured on the property.

“It is proposed that the Chocolaterie operate seven days per week from 10am until 6pm.”

Plans for the new business also suggest between 36 and 53 jobs will be created at the chocolaterie.

The planning application also seeks permission to build and operate 12 “individual sustainably design cabins” and a communal building on the property to allow for farm-stays.

“Animal stables will be constructed and located adjacent to the farm stay building to accommodate farm animals associated with agricultural pursuits on the property which will be associated with the farm stay and children’s farm uses,” planning documents noted.

Public comment on the planning application will remain open until September 13.
