Two men accused of involvement in a savage stabbing that left a man fighting for life in the Geelong CBD will fight serious charges after being committed to stand trial.

Codi Allan and Billy Braico both pleaded not guilty in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday to a number of offences relating to the alleged stabbing of a 44-year-old man and a 26-year-old man along Brougham St on May 8 last year.

Crown prosectors will argue they, and one other accused, armed themselves with knives and chased the victims down the street after an altercation at the Moorabool St bus stop before inflicting the life-threatening injuries.

According to court documents, Mr Allan and another male both produced a large knife and proceeded to stab one of the victims in the neck and chest, causing him to fall to the ground “multiple times where they continued to assault him.”

Mr Braico is alleged to have then assaulted the other victim and “stabbed him to the chest with a knife”, the documents state.

The three accused can be seen on CCTV throughout the Geelong CBD running towards the railway station, it will be alleged.

The court heard one of the men had to be resuscitated as a result of stab wounds to the neck and chest.

He was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition where he lay in a coma. He suffered a severe stroke and massive brain bleed.

Codi Allan and Billy Braico will stand trial in the County Court in Geelong.

Mr Allan, 20, from Norlane, has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury, intentionally cause injury, assault in company and committing an indictable offence on bail.

Mr Braico, a 20-year-old from Brayswater, has been charged with three counts of intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury and unlawful assault.

Both appeared in court during the committal hearing on Friday, where their defence counsels argued there was insufficient evidence to commit them on some of the charges.

They also disputed the two and the other alleged offender chased the victims and “were simply walking that way”.

Crown prosecutors will use CCTV vision and medical records to form part of its case.

Magistrate Peter Mellas committed both men to stand trial before a jury in the County Court of Victoria.

They were bailed to appear for a directions hearing in Geelong on August 2.
