Best Halloween costume, decorations in Geelong for 2023 revealed, voted by locals

The votes are in, and Geelong’s best Halloween costumes and house decorations for 2023 have been found.
Lylah Smith-Jeffrey from Armstrong Creek was crowned the best costume winner, receiving 48 of the more than 200 votes submitted.
The six-year-old dressed as Pennywise the Dancing Clown from Stephen King’s IT, with mum Maddie Smith reporting it took an hour to get her ready.
Ms Smith said her daughter searched online for costume inspiration, and loved the look of Pennywise – although her mum hadn’t let the young girl watch the horror movie adaptation.
Ms Smith said Lylah was a “very mischievous” girl, and had loved dressing up since she was born.
“She’s a very theatrical kid,” Ms Smith said.
“She will be so stoked with the win, over the moon.
“She said to me, ‘if I do win, I’ll need security to protect me from the paparazzi.’
“She’s a very funny kid.”
Ms Smith said her daughter, who also enjoyed gymnastics and watching figure skating, loved the “wicked” side of things, and getting into character.
The top five best costumes, as voted by Geelong Advertiser readers, also included:
RILEY, 10, and Morgan, 8, from Ocean Grove as Wednesday and Cousin Itt from the Addams Family;
HENDRIX, 7, from Leopold as a boy cut in half;
RAPH, 5, and Billie, 4, from Lara dressed as Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas; and,
PARKER, 8, Van, 9, Xavier, 8, Ivy, 8, Willow, 10, Adaline, 4, and Mackenzie, 10, from Mount Duneed as criminals and police.
A home on Chaudenay Mews, Ocean Grove won the vote for the best house decorations, with a giant red back spider the main attraction.
Rounding out the top five best decorated houses were homes on Smith St, Greenville Drive, and Dalyston St, all in Grovedale, and Werner Ave, Marshall.
