Geelong defender Jack Henry has been ruled out of the Cats’ blockbuster clash with Collingwood on Saturday night as vice-captain Tom Stewart appears set to face the Pies.
Henry was subbed out of Geelong’s win over Melbourne in round four with a hamstring injury, while Stewart copped a knee knock in the first quarter of the Cats’ loss to Carlton on Sunday but played out the game.
Cats coach Chris Scott said post-match on Sunday that Henry was a chance to return in round eight, but the 192 centimetre stopper will miss another 1-3 weeks.
Stewart had ice on his knee in the rooms after he collected just 13 touches against Carlton on Sunday but has been left off Geelong’s injury list.
Gryan Miers continues to work through the AFL’s concussion protocols and is listed as TBC.
But the playmaker can return against Collingwood if he ticks off the necessary concussion markers, as their contest with the Pies is exactly 12 days since his Easter Monday blow.
Young midfielder Mitch Knevitt was withdrawn was the Cats’ extended squad on Friday with his nagging foot issue, but football boss Andrew Mackie said he remains in the mix to face the Pies.
“Mitch has been managing a plantar-fascia injury in right foot. We are continuing to take a cautious approach and will monitor his symptoms throughout the week before making a call on his availability for Saturday night,” Mackie said.
Ted Clohesy produced an emphatic response to his AFL axing with 25 disposals, 17 contested possessions, 14 tackles, seven clearances and 146 SuperCoach points in his first VFL game of the season, putting him in line for a recall.
Barwon Heads export Oli Wiltshire was subbed out with just six touches in a quiet AFL debut against Carlton, while third-year midfielder Jhye Clark managed 10 possessions.
Experienced defender Jed Bews is available after recovering from his finger injury suffered on the eve of the season, but the 31-year-old will return through Geelong’s reserves side, who have the bye this weekend.
“In positive news for Jed, he has completed his rehabilitation from a right finger tendon injury. With the VFL having a bye this weekend, Jed will have to wait a week before returning however it will be great to see him back out there,” Mackie said.
Forgotten duo Cam Guthrie and Jack Martin will start to increase their intensity after recently re-joining main training.
