Former MasterChef judge Gary Mehigan is hoping to cook up a whopping $6.49m for his Malvern East home.

The celebrity chef this year worked on Channel 7’s Plate of Origin after last year parting ways with Channel 10 hit MasterChef Australia where he was a judge for 11 seasons.

Mehigan is joined by former MasterChef judge, Matt Preston, as well as My Kitchen Rules judge Manu Feildel on the new show.

But it’s his extensively updated four-bedroom 66 Central Park Road house that will be judged at auction on December 12 after being listed with a $5.9m-$6.49m price guide.

And it’s understood another famous face may have already inspected the home.

The home’s expansive kitchen is a chef’s dream with two Ariston ovens, a Vintec wine fridge as well as a built-in fridge and freezer.

Mehigan has also added a well-tended herb garden to the backyard, perfect for home chefs to spice up an evening meal.

There’s a third cooking space in the garage which opens up on two sides to extend entertainment options.

Marshall White’s Joanna Nairn is handling the sale and also sold the home to the Mehigans for $3.301m in October 2012, according to public records.

Ms Nairn said the Mehigan’s had updated the home substantially, deciding to sell after spending much of this year at their country residence.

“It’s from the ground up, it’s an old house but everything is now brand new and in pristine condition,” she said.

“It’s a lovely entertaining home.”

In the suburb’s high-end Gascoigne Estate, the 1886-built house with Victorian architecture has multiple living spaces and is filled with stylish flourishes including marble gas fireplaces, plantation shutters, plus a bay window in the main bedroom.

Ms Nairn said it would most likely sell to a family, but could lure locals out of the woodwork as homes facing the popular Central Park rarely changed hands.

She said inspections were only being conducted by appointment, but that an artist had already taken a look at the home.

Another “known face” has also had a peek, but Ms Nairn would not confirm who they were or where they might be known from.

Mehigan’s listing follows a string of sales by his former Channel 10 colleague, George Calombaris who has parted ways with a $1.01m Safety Beach getaway and his Toorak family home in a secretive deal worth well above the $4.75m he paid for it in 2013.

Calombaris has been embroiled in the collapse of his MAdE catering company empire following revelations of staff being underpaid $7.8m in wages and super.
