Former state Liberal MP Rory Amon has reported for bail in Sydney after being charged with historic child sexual assault offences.

Dressed in a blue sweater and dark pants, the 35-year-old went to Dee Why police station to report to officers as part of his bail conditions on Sunday.

He was charged with 10 historic child sexual assault offences last month following an investigation into reports of an alleged sexual assault of a teen boy known to him in Mona Vale in 2017.

Amon has vowed to defend the charges.

He quit parliament shortly after the charges, meaning the Liberals will have to context a by-election in his northern beaches electorate Pittwater.

Privately, party members have admitted the Liberals have little chance of retaining the seat and expect a teal independent to win.

“There is no way we’re going to win it,” a source previously said.
