ONE TO FOLLOW
REAGAN
After a disappointing second-up performance at Cannon Park late last year, Stephen Massingham’s gelding should have bolted in on Thursday at Townsville.
The four-year-old bay was blocked for clear running on a number of occasions in the home straight and could not get a clear shot at them.
If jockey Nathan Day found some clear air, there was every chance he would have won by a length or two.
Reagan is ready to win next start.
FINISH ON A HIGH
OAKFIELD AVENGER
The Innisfail old stager went out on a positive note to conclude his 36-start career.
The 10-year-old won at Cannon Park late last month with owners keen to give him another run at their home track last Saturday.
The George Tsakissiris-trained gelding could not get there however, and retired after his Cairns win.
HIT IN THE POCKET
Graham Watson
The Mareeba-trained Northern Great looked well on the way to claiming his first career win in Townsville last Thursday before tiring late in the straight.
Watson, on Northern Great, was fined $200 as he failed to ride his mount out to the finish of the race.
THE TALKING POINT
Some connections of horses were left frustrated with Innisfail losing a race between nominations and acceptances last week.
The races did not go ahead because of rain but if they were run, only five events were set for decision, instead of the six that were originally programmed.
