Although no properties are as yet at risk in Torrens Creek, Queensland Fire Department issued a warning about 5pm for residents to stay informed.
“Major roads or highways may be impacted, including Flinders Highway near Torrens Creek.”
The fire was contained just before 6pm, QFD said, although the highway may remain closed.
Queensland Police Service has been contacted for comment.
QFD also issued a warning to avoid smoke in and around Stuart in Townsville at 5.14pm.
Fires are also burning at Toonpan,Yabulu and Yuruga south of Ingham.
Adults, teens hurt in serious Outback traffic crash
Two adults and two teenagers have been hurt after a serious single-vehicle accident on the Flinders Highway between Townsville and Mount Isa.
Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed a rescue helicopter had been tasked to fly to the scene of the crash at Marathon between Richmond and Hughenden at 10.42pm on Monday.
A QAS spokesman said four people had been injured after the vehicle they were travelling in left the highway and crashed into a ditch.
He said a male in his 30s had suffered neck and head injuries while a female, also in her 30s, had suffered head injuries.
The QAS spokesman said two teenaged males had suffered neck injuries.
All four patients were listed in stable conditions, he said.
Queensland Fire Department was also on scene.
The highway remains open.
