Celebrating their first 12 months in business in style, the husband and wife behind a Toowoomba venture have been named one of three state finalists for an award.

When Ian and Chloe Watson first opened Watson’s Plumbing and Gas, they never imagined they would be heading for the Master Plumbers’ Association of Queensland awards stage just one year later.

“Due to the boom in the construction industry, there’s this misconception that tradies are unreliable, so we’re providing the best possible service to improve industry standards and impress customers,” Ms Watson said.

“One of our core values are communication and Ian’s priority is to make his customers happy … he puts his heart and soul into his work every day.”

Nominated by a customer for the Service Excellence Award, the duo are not only one of three state finalists, but also the only regional contender in the category.

Proud to represent Toowoomba, the couple said it showed the high quality standard of trades in regional Queensland.

“We’re very proud because the customer was not only impressed with our reliability and quality of work, but for them to actually take the time to nominate us shows they think we’re worthy,” Ms Watson said.

“The other nominees are from cities, have been trading for more than a decade and have more than 10 employees, so regardless of the result, we feel like winners.”

Winners will be announced at the Master Plumbers’ Association of Queensland awards night in Brisbane, on October 15.
