A woman has been flown to hospital in a critical condition after she fell from a horse while riding on a road west of Brisbane.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the woman in her 40s was reported to have been riding along Quality Road at Lockyer Waters about 9.50am.

The woman sustained serious head injuries and was treated at the scene before being flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.
