More details have emerged after a Bruce Highway crash that left one woman dead in the Fraser Coast town of Torbanlea.
The Bruce Highway was closed in all directions north of Maryborough after the serious head-on crash on Wednesday night.
Paramedics treated three patients at the scene of the two-vehicle crash which occurred at Torbanlea, 4km south of the Howard exit, about 8.30pm.
Police on Thursday released further details about the crash.
The 49-year-old woman killed in the crash was from Torbanlea, police said.
She died at the scene despite efforts from passers-by and emergency services.
The driver of the Kia Carnival, a 44-year-old woman, was transported to Hervey Bay Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A 44-year-old male passenger of the Kia was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital via helicopter with serious injuries.
A QAS spokesman said two people were trapped in their vehicles following the crash.
Early indications were that the sedan, a Holden Stateman travelling in the southbound lanes, crossed on to the wrong side of the highway and collided with the other vehicle.
The Bruce Hwy has since reopened.
Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are ongoing.
