Man dies, woman fighting for life after crash shuts Brisbane Valley Highway near Fernvale

A man has died and a woman is fighting for life after a serious traffic crash which shut down a busy highway west of Brisbane on Wednesday.

A man has died and a woman is in a critical condition after a serious traffic crash which shut down a busy highway west of Brisbane on Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called to a crash involving a SUV, a ute and a truck on Brisbane Valley Highway at the Harris Road and Millar Road intersection in Fernvale just before 1.45pm today.

Police said the male ute driver - aged in his 30s - died at the scene.

The female SUV driver - aged in her 60s - sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a life-threatening condition.

The male truck driver - aged in his 40s - sustained a minor wrist injury but declined transport to hospital.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash and urged anyone with relevant vision of the vehicles prior to the crash to contact police.

The highway remained closed at 5.30pm.
