Two charged after police find alleged copper haul following break-in

A man and woman have been charged after police allege they broke into a building site and stole electrical wires, copper fittings and a power box.

Two people have been charged after police allege they broke into a building site and stole electrical wires, copper fittings and a power box at Spring Mountain on August 12.

At around 4pm, police alleged the pair broke into a Park Place property and left about $12,500 worth of damage following the theft.

After extensive investigations, detectives conducted a search warrant at a Pistachio Court address in Camira on August 15 where they allegedly found 10 kilograms of cut copper, stripped wiring, a stolen airconditioning unit and a stolen laundry sink.

A 42-year-old Camira man and 37-year old Camira woman were both charged.

The man was charged with one count of enter premises and commit indictable offence, and two counts of possess tainted property.

The woman was charged with one count each of enter premises and commit indictable offence, and possess tainted property.

Both are due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on September 20.

Police in a statement said the theft of copper wire and other metal exposes thieves, legitimate workers and the wider community to significant risk of serious injury or death.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about copper thefts to come forward.
