Tiny boy, man suffer ‘significant injuries’ in horror motorcycle crash

Emergency services have faced a ‘confronting scene’ after a man and his four-year-old pillion passenger were ‘significantly’ injured in a motorcycle crash, north of Brisbane.

Saving young lives on the road

A motorcycle rider and his pillion passenger, a four-year-old little boy, are fighting for their lives after a horror crash at Redcliffe on Saturday night.

Emergency services, including the high acuity response unit, were called an intersection of Drover Rd in Margate about 7.15pm.

Police say the 32-year-old man was travelling on a blue Honda motorbike along Macdonnell Rd with the young child when the pair collided with a four-wheel-drive.

They both suffered serious injuries and were transported to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Queensland Children’s Hospital in critical conditions.

The female driver of the four-wheel-drive was not injured.

QAS Medical Director Dr Steven Rashford, who attended the road traffic crash, said the rider and the child passenger suffered “very significant injuries”.

“Multiple resources responded to the scene including the high acuity response unit; both patients were placed in an induced coma and transferred to hospital in a critical condition.”

Dr Rashford said this was a “confronting scene” for all emergency responders so early in the New Year as “we plea with everyone to take care on the roads.”

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have footage of the blue Honda travelling in the vicinity prior to the incident to come forward.
