More than 2000 properties were without power in Logan overnight after a smoke was detected in a substation.
The 2283 homes across Browns Plains, Parkinson, Regents Park, Boronia Heights and Hillcrest lost power just before 10pm.
An Energex spokesman confirmed late Sunday that the cause of the outage appeared to be a fire at a nearby substation.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews were called to a substation between the Mount Lindesay Highway and the Grand Plaza Shopping Centre at Browns Plains.
“When we first arrived there was smoke evident but no flames, but upon further inspection we did find fire in some cabling,” a QFES spokesman said.
“We had it under control by 10.30pm.”
A fix for the outage was not expected until the early hours of Monday morning, but Energex spokesman Danny Donald said crews worked hard to have power restored shortly before midnight.
“About seven minutes to 12 it was back on,” Mr Donald said.
Mr Donald on Monday confirmed the small fire had been caused by a “fault in the underground cable.”
