Police are appealing for witnesses after a moped rider was left with critical injuries in a crash west of Brisbane on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Silkstone at Ipswich about 4.10pm after a red moped and a white utility collided at the intersection of Blackstone Rd and Church St.

Crews found a 17-year-old Raceview boy with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

A 14-year-old boy inside the ute sustained minor injuries and was transported to Ipswich Hospital for treatment. A 41-year-old Silkstone man who was driving the utility was not hurt and is helping police with investigations.

Police closed the intersection for several hours on Wednesday to conduct investigations.

They are appealing to witnesses, particularly anyone who saw the red Kymco Agility 50 moped or white Mitsubishi Triton utility prior to the crash, to come forward.

Anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam vision is also urged to contact police.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
