A rescue effort was under way in the South Burnett on Tuesday night after a utility with two occupants became stuck in floodwaters.

The vehicle was reported trapped in a flooded creek near the intersection of Kumbia and Parker roads, Ellesmere, just after 8pm.

Police said it appeared the ute had stalled in the water, with two people with the vehicle at the time the call came in.

As of 9pm, the passenger of the vehicle had been retrieved, while the driver was sitting on the roof of the car waiting to be rescued.
