A top Queensland rodeo clown has been seriously injured by a bull in what’s been described as a ‘freakish’ incident at a rodeo north of Mackay.
Brodie Frizzell, a protection athlete or ‘rodeo clown’ was flown to hospital Saturday night after being headbutted in the stomach and kicked in the head by a bull at the Professional Bull Riders’ bull ride at Dittmann Bucking Bulls.
Emergency services were called to the rodeo on Midge Point Rd at Bloomsbury about 9pm after the 28-year-old copped the blow to the stomach, causing him serious injury.
RACQ Central Queensland airlifted Mr Frizzell with injuries to his abdomen and head.
Glen Young, Professional Bull Riders general manager said the incident was “freakish”.
“He’s one of our top athletes and we really hope that it’s a minor situation,”
“He did his job, he put himself between the bull and rider and took the hit for the rider but was just in an unfortunate position where he didn’t get flung away.” Mr Young said.
The incident occurred toward the end of the night, with the event continuing on with three other protection athletes.
Mr Young said he spoke to Mackay Hospital this morning, with Mr Frizzell resting and being monitored.
