Man charged with unlawful possession of weapons

A man has been charged following an incident allegedly involving a gun in Urangan on Friday.
Officers were called to Boat Harbour Road around 3.35pm following reports of a man, armed with a weapon, within the area, a police spokeswoman said.
About 4.50pm, officers took a 37-year-old Urangan man into custody near Williams Street.
He has been charged with one count each of unlawful possession of weapons, possessing dangerous drugs schedule 1, possessing dangerous drugs, obstructing police officer, trespass and authority required to possess explosives.
He was due to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court on Saturday.
No one was physically harmed during the incident.
It came after a separate policer operation in Urangan on Friday.
Another man, 43, has been taken into custody after a tense standoff with police following the release of children at a home in the same suburb.
A Queensland Police spokesman earlier confirmed the man was armed with a bladed weapon.
Police made an emergency declaration following a welfare check.
Police were treating the drama as a domestic violence and mental health incident.
The spokesman said there were children with the man overnight however police were able to get them out and to safety early this morning.
Police remained on scene and are working to negotiate with the armed man until he was taken in custody just after 10am.
Police confirmed everyone in the house at the time was safe.
The drama began shortly before 3am on Friday morning, police attended a Hood Street address.
After arriving, they began negotiations with a man at the address.
An emergency situation was declared around 4.30am, with boundaries encompassing Hood Street, Esplanade, Marine Court and Pulgul Street.
Members of the public were advised to avoid the area and those within the exclusion zone were asked to remain indoors until further notice.
Traffic diversions were in place.
The drama has sparked renewed concerns about what is happening in Hervey Bay, following revelations of rooftop stand-offs, screaming in the night, and assaults.
Shocking images and video have also emerged of multiple disturbing daylight acts in the CBD including one man defecating on the road on the corner of Kent and March Streets despite the availability of nearby public toilets and an aggressive vagrant screaming abuse opposite the Post Office Hotel, putting his hands down his pants then removing his clothes entirely and walking the streets naked.

Leila Hayes was concerned for the children caught up in such situations.
“Poor children … no child should have to go through something like that.’’
Debbie Cambell said Hervey Bay's crime rate had skyrocketed from around 2015.
“The cashless centrelink card there and Bundaberg saw theft and drug dealing become rampant. No rentals and housing, has put the icing on the cake.’’
Operation Whisky Unison began in Maryborough on Thursday afternoon, November 14, which will see an increase in high visibility policing by police officers and Police Liaison Officers in the CBD, shopping centres and parks.
