A house has been set alight by a lightning strike as thunderstorms hit parts of South East Queensland on Wednesday night.
Three Queensland Fire and Emergency crews were sent to the house on Dinnigan Cr, Durack, about 11.14pm and they managed to bring the under control by 11.38pm.
All residents of the home were evacuated and nobody was injured.
Senior Meteorologist Kimba Wong said there were more than 1000 lightning strikes recorded in the Greater Brisbane area overnight.
“Of those 1000, about 250 were cloud to ground strikes,” she said.
“It was unlucky the house got hit but that’s a risk that comes with every thunderstorm.”
Ms Wong said thunderstorms rolled through Brisbane and continued up north where they “fizzled out”.
“In terms of rainfall we saw some higher falls concentrated through the southwest suburbs of Brisbane around 5-15mm,” she said.
“The highest was at South Ripley of about 15mm.”
Ms Wong said in the coming days weather conditions were expected to be mostly sunny across the state.
“But in the second half of next week we will see hotter days coming through Brisbane and the southeast,” she said.
