A motorcyclist has been killed in a collision with a truck that closed the Pacific Mwy on the Gold Coast for several hours on Wednesday.
Initial investigations suggest that the motorcycle collided with another vehicle in a southbound lane about 2pm. The collision caused the rider of the motorcycle - a 66-year-old Carrara man - to come off his bike and into the path of a truck.
The drivers of the other two vehicles involved were uninjured.
All lanes were subsequently closed but have since reopened.
Queensland Ambulance’s Acting Operations Supervisor, James Burley said that it was still unclear how the crash had occurred.
“QPS are still trying to determine exactly what has happened,” he said.
“Crews were initially confronted with some quite stressful scenes.”
Delays stretched back to Helensvale at 4pm, with adjacent routes also heavily congested.
The majority of the congestion had cleared by 7pm, while residual delays were expected to clear by 8pm.
