Multiple emergency service crews rushed to a Langlands Circuit home in Walloon at 9.20pm following reports of a house fire.

On arrival, Queensland Fire Department crews confirmed the one-storey brick house was well engulfed by flames.

A spokeswoman said crews conducted several searches of the property.

“Firefighters in breathing apparatus conducted two searches of the dwelling and accounted for everyone,” the spokeswoman said.

“The fire was extinguished at 11.50pm.

“A fire investigator has been tasked to the scene.”

A police officer was taken to hospital with minor burns and smoke inhalation, while another person, believed to be a neighbour, was also taken to hospital.

It’s believed the person killed was a faher of a small child, with a GoFundMe set up by a neighbour.

Several Walloon residents have described hearing an explosion at the time of the fire.

Walloon Hotel owner Stewart Gibson said his establishment will be hosting a fundraiser donating 100 per cent of sales from every garlic bread directly to those that have been impacted.

“After hearing sad news and being such a small community, we wanted to jump on board and do everything that we could do to be able to help those in need at such a dire time for them,” Mr Gibson said.

“It’s a big shock, especially because we do live in a small community.

“Everyone is close, you worry for all the people that you know that live out here and you become friends with.

“It’s very sad.”

Walloon local Nick Ross was laying in bed when he heard the explosion.

“There was just a massive bang and then there was a big fire,” Mr Ross said.

“It really caught me off guard.

“It is not something that I think anyone in the area would have ever expected before.”

It was confirmed this morning that a person has died.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the fire and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
