Emergency services, including police, critical care paramedics and three fire crews, were called to the scene of the crash near Bowenville about 7pm on Tuesday.

It appears a black Chrysler 300C sedan was travelling eastbound on the Warrego Hwy near Mason Rd when it collided with a white Toyota Landcruiser 4WD travelling in the same direction.

The driver, a male in his 40s, was transported with minor injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, a 55-year-old Jondaryan man, sustained serious injuries.

Additionally, investigators appealed for anyone who may have seen the black Chrysler travelling along the highway before the incident to come forward.

All lanes of the highway were blocked for some time after the crash. They have since reopened.

Police have confirmed they are investigating if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
