A motorcyclist has been confirmed dead after a crash in Brisbane on Friday morning.

Emergency services responded to an incident on Old Cleveland Rd in Carindale, near the Westfield shopping centre, just after 10am.

Police said a blue and white Suzuki motorcycle was travelling along the road when it collided with a metal railing near the Scrub Rd intersection.

The 26-year-old rider, of Capalaba, sustained critical injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the man sustained serious head and chest injuries.

Police and other emergency crews closed the road in the eastbound direction for a period.

Police were investigating the circumstances of the crash and urged anyone with dashcam vision or information to contact them.
