Man killed in Logan crash after chaotic night on southeast roads
A man has died after his vehicle rolled on a Logan road Saturday night. It was one of several serious crashes in the state’s southeast.
A man has died after the vehicle he was in rolled in Logan Saturday night.
Emergency crews were called to New Beith Rd, Greenbank, just before 10pm to reports of a single-vehicle rollover involving a Volkswagen Amarok.
The driver, a 31-year-old man from New Beith, was assessed to be in a life-threatening condition but died at the scene.
Two passengers, a 36-year-old Regents Park man and 35-year-old Eagleby man, were taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with minor injuries.
Mark Comiskey, owner of Ozzy Nursery, said he heard a loud bang as the vehicle rolled into the storm drainage area across the road from his business.
“From what I could see, it rolled over into the ditch. Police and ambulance were quick to respond,” he said.
Mr Comiskey said when he went to bed about four hours after the crash, emergency crews were still at the scene.
On Sunday morning, tyre marks were visible leading into the drain, with two guide posts knocked over and soil upturned.
“This is a problem road,” he said.
“There have been multiple fatal accidents since 2020 within 200 metres of here. The speed was reduced near the new childcare facility, but it still stops short right here.
“Something needs to be done.”
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
It was one of several serious crashes in the state’s southeast overnight.
In inner Brisbane, a vehicle and pedestrian crash left a man in his 50s with potentially life-threatening injuries.
The crash happened just before 10pm on Petrie Terrace and also left a woman in her 30s with minor injuries. Both were taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
A crash at Upper Mount Gravatt left a man in a potentially life-threatening condition.
He was taken to the PA Hospital with head and neck injuries after the vehicle he was in crashed into a pole on Logan Rd just after 8.30pm.
Later in the night, a vehicle rollover at Chermside left a patient with serious head injuries.
They were taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.
The crash, on Fischle St, happened just before 11pm and also left a woman in her 30s with minor injuries.
