A man has lost his life after his sports car left a Queensland highway and rolled on Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the driver, a 63-year-old New South Wales man from Karabah, had been driving a black 2001 Mustang southwest along the Kennedy Highway at Mareeba near Cairns when the horror smash occurred about 12.30pm.
It is understood the tragic scene is about 500m west of Davies Creek Rd.
A nearby motorist came across the scene and attempted to help the man, but his injuries were too extreme and he died at the scene.
The forensic crash unit have been deployed to the scene, and are appealing for any witnesses and drivers with dashcam footage of the crash – or the moments leading up to it – to come forward.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
