A teenage driver has been left in a serious condition after their car crashed into a tree.
The incident occurred on Saturday about 3.30pm in the Southern Downs region, on the New England Highway in Headington Hill, south of Toowoomba.
It is understood the teen was the sole occupant of a ute which veered off the road and collided with a tree.
Toowoomba’s RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter pilot landed the aircraft in a paddock near the scene of the crash.
Paramedics from the Queensland Ambulance Service attended to the patient before the rescue chopper arrived.
QFES also attended to assist with rescuing the patient from the vehicle.
The male teen was then placed under the care of the LifeFlight critical care doctor and QAS flight paramedic.
A QAS spokeswoman said the patient suffered a significant head injury and had to be rescued after his legs became trapped in the car.
He also sustained leg injuries and was left in a serious condition.
The young patient was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.
