A man whose car smashed into a home north of Brisbane on Saturday night was disqualified from driving and had been hooning in the moments before impact, police allege.
Emergency crews were called to a residential property on the corner of Sheaves and Whitehorse roads at Dakabin about 8.30pm on Saturday after reporters a car had driven into a house.
The entire car ended up in a front room of the house, which was unoccupied at the time.
Police allege the driver of the vehicle was disqualified from driving and was hooning in the moments before the crash.
“Further enquires allegedly indicated that the driver’s licence was suspended, and that the vehicle was seen driving dangerously in the area before the crash,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.
Nearby residents likened the sound of the collision to an explosion.
“He flew on past us and he skipped over the kerb, completely cleared the grass bank and just went straight through the side of that house,” one person told Nine News Queensland.
It is understood neighbours assisted the driver of the vehicle from the wreck before handing him into the care of paramedics.
According to a neighbour, the residents of the home were away on holidays at the time and arrived home minutes after the crash took place.
“They’re very shaken up, they weren’t home, they’d just arrived home probably 10 minutes after it all happened and yeah he was devastated,” Royce told Nine News Queensland.
The driver was taken to Caboolture Hospital in a stable condition.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed no one was in the property at the time of the incident.
Investigations were ongoing.
