A charger under a mattress is believed to have caused a fire that extensively damaged a house at Logan on Wednesday.

The fire broke out at a residence in Lani St, Park Ridge, just before 1.30pm, fire crews arriving to find the home well alight.

A neighbour has told The Courier-Mail she could hear screams as the house burned.

“I could hear them, I could hear the lady screaming from the house,” she said.

“And then I looked out my window and saw the smoke and the fire and you could just hear it crackling, and I just got my hose out and started hosing the fence because the fire was going on to their neighbour’s fence, which is connected to our fence.

“So I was just trying to water the fence because my hose couldn’t reach the back of their house.”

Ambulance crews treated three people who had been inside the home when the fire started for minor smoke inhalation, but they did not require hospitalisation.

Earlier, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said the fire was mostly at the rear of the property.

“It’s well-involved, you could certainly say that, but we have heard from our crews that everyone made it out safely,” the spokesperson said.

It was believed to be a low-set brick-and-tile home.

Fire crews were still battling the blaze about 2.15pm.

Paramedics will remain on scene until fire crews have extinguished the fire.

Neighbours have already started gathering clothes and other necessities for the family.

“Everyone in the estate will be making sure she has everything she needs,” one said.

“Were just glad no one was hurt, and the fact that their children weren’t home is just so lucky.”
