Body found in search for missing paddleboarder at Lake Somerset

A man who failed to resurface at Lake Somerset on Monday has been found dead.

Police have confirmed that a man who failed to resurface at Lake Somerset on Monday afternoon has been found dead.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner, following the non-suspicious death of a 45-year-old Buderim man after his body was found at Lake Somerset on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to Kirkleagh Road at Lake Somerset just after 12:30pm Monday.

It is understood the man was on a paddleboard at the time of the incident.

Water Police, divers and SES crews had resumed the search for him at 8am Tuesday, after the search was called off from sundown Monday.

Two Fire Department crews and Queensland Ambulance Service personnel were also on scene during part of Monday’s search.

A paddleboarder has gone missing at Lake Somerset.

Timmy Jarvis was camping at the NRMA Somerset Holiday park with his family and was out on his boat at the time of the incident.

Mr Jarvis was at Somerset Lake filming videos for his kids’ YouTube channel.

“We were camping out there and were packing up to come home. We were going up to the boat ramp and an old lady told us they were searching for someone out there as they found a paddle,” Mr Jarvis said on Monday.

“At first we thought it was our paddle as the kids lost one on their kayak yesterday (Sunday), so we drove the boat over there and told police we lost a paddle earlier this morning. If they were looking for that. They said no they were looking for someone on a paddle board and pointed to it.

“They must’ve fallen off in the water and they were still looking for them when we left around 3pm.”

Mr Jarvis said the divers arrived around 3.30pm Monday to assist in the search for the man. It’s understood the body was found Tuesday afternoon.
