Firefighters have battled two separate house fires north of Brisbane that erupted just five minutes apart.

Firefighters battled two separate house fires north of Brisbane on Saturday night.

Crews were called to a blaze at Coolgarra Ave, Bongaree, on Bribie Island, about 7.40pm and found a single-storey brick dwelling well engulfed by flames.

It is understood a toaster caught fire in the kitchen, with the fire spreading throughout the dwelling, while all the occupants were able to get out of the property.

According to a Queensland Fire Department spokesman, the fire started in the kitchen and then spread to the backyard.

“Everyone was accounted for,” the spokesman said.

The fire was brought under control at 8.20pm.

Just five minutes earlier, firefighters were called to Edward St, Caboolture where another single-storey home was engulfed by flames.

“It appears that it was an abandoned house that was fully involved,” a QFD spokesman said.

“Crews were fighting it externally.”

The fire was also under control at 8.20pm and is being treated as suspicious with fire investigators at the scene on Sunday morning sifting through the rubble to determine the cause.
