On arrival, they found the timber dwelling engulfed by flames and all residents safely out of the property.

Claus St resident Luke Noble said he and his kids heard “a really loud bang” when a fire erupted a few houses down.

“We were all having dessert here when we heard it,” he said.

“It almost sounded like a gas bottle exploded or something.”

Mr Noble said they saw a big orange hue when they came outside.

“A few of our neighbours were out on the street but we came out to make sure everyone was okay,” he said.

“Everyone seemed to get out of the house pretty quickly and we just saw the man being taken away on a stretcher.”

Mr Noble said about four fire trucks, police and ambulance lined the street.

He said the home went up in flames quickly.

Crews had the fire under control by 8.30pm. The cause of the fire is unknown.

A man in his 60s was taken to Ipswich Hospital with smoke inhalation.

Fire investigators will return to the scene on Thursday morning.
