A search and rescue at Kholo Creek in Mount Crosby has ended in tragedy after a teenage boy failed to resurface from a popular waterhole.

A police spokesman confirmed the boy’s body was found around early on Thursday afternoon.

Queensland Ambulance Service were called to the waterhole off Moledina Crescent at Mount Crosby about 10.30am to reports a boy had failed to resurface.

A search was conducted by swift water rescue, a dive squad and foot patrols.

It is understood a group had been swimming at the waterhole.

Friends and family of the teenager could be heard crying and screaming at the scene.

Two Queensland Fire and Rescue Service trucks left the scene just after 1pm.

A QFES spokeswoman said the waterhole was understood to be fairly deep.

“So we have left it in the hands of QPS special divers,” she said.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
