An injured hiker has been survived cold and wet weather after being trapped in dense bushland on a popular Queensland mountain for nearly 24 hours.

Emergency services responded to a call about 10.20am on Saturday at Mt Barney where a 44-year-old man had fallen down an embankment roughly up to 10 metres high.

Rescuers attempted to retrieve the patient several times throughout Saturday but inclement weather and rocky terrain delayed their attempts until Sunday morning.

Paramedics remained with the man overnight and into the morning.

A rescue helicopter was put on standby and paramedics were preparing the man for transport at 8am on Sunday morning.

The man was in the helicopter at 8.30am but is yet to be lifted from the scene.

The patient sustained shoulder injuries from the incident but is now in a stable condition and is set to be taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
