New details have emerged about the moments after a horrific crash north of Brisbane that left a mother dead and her four-month-old baby boy in a critical condition.

Emergency services were called to reports of a single vehicle crash into a tree on Caboolture River Rd near Tinney Rd at Upper Caboolture about 2.30pm on Friday.

Police located a white 4WD extensively damaged and a 33-year-old woman from Caboolture was declared dead at the scene.

Burpengary Forensic Crash Unit Sergeant Greg Price said a four-month-old baby boy was found in the car sometime later and was treated at the scene before being taken to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.

“We can confirm the child was in an approved baby seat however the impact from the crash has actually evicted the child from that capsule,” Sgt Price said.

“And the child was actually located within the vehicle upon emergency services arrival.”

Sgt Price said the father of the child was at the hospital supporting his son.

“At this stage, all I know from last night is he is stable in the paediatric ICU, he is critical and they are still assessing his injuries,” he said.

“As far as we are aware they could not do surgery last night but that’s part of the assessment this morning.”

Sgt Price said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

“At this stage the Investigations indicate the vehicle was travelling eastbound on Caboolture River Rd near Tinney Rd and has left the road, colliding with several large trees,” he said.

“The vehicle suffered extensive damage as a result of the crash.

“We are seeking any witnesses to the crash or any dashcam from the crash.

“We are seeking what the actions of the driver were prior to the crash. Most of the people that called in yesterday have come across the crash, they weren’t witnesses.”

He said several factors would be investigated.

“At this stage speed is something we are looking at in relation to the extent of the damage,” he said. “But I can’t tell you at this stage if anything else was involved.”

Sgt Price said it was a horrific event involving local people and would no doubt impact the family and local community.

“We are currently providing support to the family who live in the Caboolture area,” he said.

Sgt Price expressed his frustration over the rising road toll.

“It’s devastating to us because road safety isn’t just our problem, it’s everyone’s problem and the figures just keep going up every year,” he said.

“I feel whatever we do we do is not helping the figures at the moment.

“It’s not just a police and emergency services problem, I think it’s everyone’s problem.

“It’s everyone’s right to drive safely and to arrive at their location safely and unfortunately that’s just not occurring at the moment.”
