A unit in an inner western Brisbane apartment complex went up in flames on Wednesday afternoon, with at least six fire crews dispatched.
The unit was believed to be on the top floor of a complex at the intersection of Archer St and Glen Rd, Toowong, less than a block away from the busy Benson St thoroughfare.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said at least one unit was well alight, but the fire, which was reported about 5pm, was under control.
“We do have some crews in breathing apparatus who have gained entry to the building and taken control of the fire, but it isn’t out yet,” she said at 5.15pm.
The unit was empty but a woman from a neighbouring apartment was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.
At least one window was blown out during the fire, which was on the top level of the three-storey complex.
Police established a crime scene and specialist investigators will return to the complex on Thursday to investigate the cause of the blaze.
It is understood authorities were able to contain the blaze to the single unit.
The road was closed until just after 6pm.
Earlier on Wednesday, a major road was closed by a house fire in Brisbane’s north.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called about the burning blaze at 1.06pm that a house was on fire on Nudgee Rd, Northgate.
QFES dispatched three fire trucks and one aerial appliance to the property.
Firefighters located a large working fire in the downstairs level of the property once they arrived, and have managed to heavily suppress the blaze since.
Four firefighters were inside the house wearing breathing apparatus to battle the fire, while another was outside.
All people have been accounted for and none have required assessment, although paramedics remain at the scene.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said Nudgee Rd was now closed between Toombul Rd and Lang Terrace.
