A child was suffered a fractured leg after being struck by a vehicle north of Brisbane on Tuesday.

It is understood a primary-school-aged boy was struck near the intersection of Parkway Terrace and Campbell Drive, Mango Hill, just before 5pm.

An ambulance spokeswoman said there were initial fears for the child’s life but he is now in a stable condition.

“The child was transported to Queensland Children’s Hospital,” she said.

“An adult patient (also struck by the vehicle) was transported with minor grazes and abrasions in a stable condition to Redcliffe Hospital.”

The driver of the car was not injured and is assisting police with the investigation.

Neighbours have described the “horrific” moments after a the boy was hit.

Cilla Masani said a large group of neighbours came running out as soon as they heard the commotion.

“We heard screaming, loud screaming. We actually thought it was people in park at the back of us,” she said.

“And then my daughter-in-law and my husband, came out and then ran back inside and saw there was a boy that’s been run over.

“So we shot out and we saw him on the ground. So obviously the people that were in the car and the intersection, they jumped out first and attended to him, and then there must have been a few people walking.”

She said they ran across the road to help the young boy.

“My daughter-in-law was just calming him down,” she said.

“And then people were just assessing it, assessing his injury, and making sure that no one was like touching him or trying to lift him up or anything like that.

”And then probably moments later, his mum came down, but his sister was in a bit of a shock, because she was there with him, and she was just beside herself.”

Ms Masani said it was touching to see the neighbours respond to try and help quickly.
