The body of a man has been located after an extensive search in the Brisbane River.
Emergency services were called to the Brisbane River end of Boundary St in West End about 4.39pm on Sunday afternoon to reports a man was spotted in distress in the water before a witness lost sight of him.
It’s understood the man was climbing a tree when he fell into the river.
Police confirmed a report will be prepared for the coroner, after the search had resumed Monday morning.
He said the search area was widened to include the river and shore along to South Brisbane and South Bank.
A police vehicle was parked at the Davies Park rowing facilities by the river.
Residents near the Boundary St location where the man failed to resurface reported hearing sirens on Sunday.
The witness, who did not know the man, called emergency services when he failed to resurface.
Police and State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers started a search of the river on Sunday afternoon but failed to locate the man.
Search efforts stopped about 9.30pm Sunday.
