A man has been charged and one dog and six puppies have been surrendered after a group allegedly attempted to steal a dog while armed from a Brisbane home on Friday.

About 12.20pm police were called to an Inala property to reports two women and a man were attempting to steal a dog.

It comes after the RSPCA received reports earlier on Friday about a man allegedly abusing animals at the same address.

Police attended and charged a 25-year-old Acacia Ridge man who attended the property with possessing a knife in a public place.

One dog and six puppies were surrendered to the RSPCA due to health concerns.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said investigations into the circumstances behind the attempted armed robbery are ongoing and the man has been issued a notice to appear before Richlands Magistrates Court on January 31.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said investigations into the reports are ongoing.
