A disqualified driver who allegedly slammed head-on into a police car, injuring two officers, was on bail for other offences at the time.
Jessie Kelly, 22, allegedly drove off on police as they tried to pull him over in a black Holden Commodore on Lane Cove Rd at Ryde just before 12am on Saturday.
Police pursued Kelly to Pittwater Rd, East Ryde, where he allegedly crossed onto the southbound lanes and hit an oncoming police vehicle.
Two officers in the car were injured in the crash — the 33-year-old male sergeant at the wheel suffered a hand injury and the 29-year-old female senior constable in the passenger seat suffered chest and back pain.
Kelly allegedly fled the crash on foot.
Almost two days later police tracked Kelly down outside a Penshurst apartment block where he was arrested.
He was charged with 12 offences including police pursuit — not stop, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, possess counterfeit currency, possess prohibited drug and having custody of a knife.
Burwood Local Court heard Kelly was on bail for a charges of affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in Sutherland Local Court at the time of the crash.
He applied for bail but Magistrate Lisa Stapleton said she was “not persuaded” by arguments he was in drug rehab and had spent limited time in custody.
Kelly pleaded not guilty to the charges relating to the police pursuit, and Ms Stapleton said he would not be eligible for a 25 per cent early-plea discount.
“Mr Kelly has lost that by pleading not guilty as he is entitled to do at this time,” Ms Stapleton said.
The case was adjourned to July 22.
