A FATHER charged with the murder of his six-month-old son on Saturday night had the matter heard briefly in Beenleigh Magistrates Court this morning.

David Fisher, 38, was not brought up to the dock when his matter was heard before Magistrate Trevor Morgan at 10.50am.

A duty solicitor asked for Mr Fisher's matter to be adjourned until July 16.

Prosecutor Sen-Sgt Dave Clarke did not oppose the move.

Devastated family members waited in the public gallery for Mr Fisher to appear for more than two hours.

They would not speak to waiting media.

Mr Fisher will be remanded in custody until his next appearance.

There was no application for bail.

He was charged on Saturday night with murder after telling police he'd fallen from a pedestrian bridge near the Eagleby boat ramp with his son in his arms.

The child's body was recovered by water police on Sunday morning at 8.50am.
