Top End Pride has announced the dates for the 2024 Darwin Pride celebrations with the city to be draped in the colours of the LGBTQAI+ communities across four days in June.
The celebrations will run from Thursday June 20 to Sunday June 23 with the theme this year being “celebrating the differences that connect us”.
Top End Pride chair Sean Taylor said the team was surprised by the number of sponsors that wanted to get involved in this year’s celebrations.
“In collaboration with these incredible partners, we aim to deliver a program committed to celebrating the differences that connect us,” he said.
“We welcome and encourage everyone to attend our events.”
Last year was the biggest Pride celebration that Darwin, and the NT, had ever seen with every event selling out.
The 2024 four day showcase of queer culture in Darwin promises to be bigger and even more popular, now moving basecamp to the Waterfront.
The NT government helps support Darwin Pride through the Northern Territory Major Events Company event funding program.
Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade deputy chief executive Scott Lovett said they were proud to get behind the celebrations.
“The Northern Territory government is supporting Darwin Pride 2024 with a $250,000 grant through the Community Benefit Fund,” he said.
“The CBF enables community groups like Top End Pride to deliver events that promote inclusivity, diversity and help bring our local community together and celebrate our unique Territory lifestyle.”
The Darwin Waterfront is set to host the family day, progress march and the second ever Darwin Pride Music Festival, with early bird tickets to that event available from Tuesday March 26.
The launch of the 2024 Darwin Pride will take place at the Deckchair Cinema, which will see key speakers and guests hit the stage before the inaugural Darwin Pride LGBTQAI+ Film Festival kicks off, which will show five queer films over three days.
Deckchair Cinema general manager James Parker said they were happy to be involved this year.
“The Darwin Film Society is proud to be hosting the Darwin Pride launch at Deckchair,” he said.
“The festival is hugely popular and this will be a great addition to our packed program of events this year.”
More details regarding the events, and acts performing at the festival, will be released in the future, for more information head to topendpride.com.au.
