A Darwin edition of Monopoly is set to hit shelves, with a team of board makers consulting locals to determine what locations will feature in the game.
On Tuesday, the company behind the development, Winning Moves, announced work was underway to piece together a localised version of the popular trading game.
Winning Moves representative Jaime-Lee de Niet said the idea to feature Darwin had been floated “for years”.
“Between its vast history, diverse culture and breathtaking scenery, Darwin is such a special part of Australia,” she said.
“We’ve been wanting to create a custom Darwin board for years and are thrilled the time has finally come to honour all that’s iconic about the region.”
Monopoly first hit shelves in 1935 and is regarded as a classic board game, enjoyed by more than a billion people across 144 countries.
With the entire Darwin board subject to local inspiration – questions, pieces, locations, prices, and more are yet to be answered.
Ms de Niet, however, said locals were invited to submit their suggestions in what the board should include.
“We’re eager to hear from Darwin locals what local landmarks should be on the board,” she said.
“One of our favourite parts of creating these special local editions is meeting people from the local community and uncovering all the hidden gems of the area.”
Other features of the board game, such as chance cards, may also be customised.
Darwin residents are encouraged to suggest their top properties by June 3 via the Darwin Monopoly Facebook page, or email info@winningmoves.com.au
