NT Police bring police dogs into action on Mitchell St.

Darwin’s party scene was given a close-up experience of the NT Police’s highly revered dog unit after a group of rowdy revellers decided to face off on the streets, catching an on-duty canine’s attention.

Footage, believed to have been taken in the early hours of Sunday morning, shows a group of men – some shirtless – yell and confront one another on the city’s legendary Mitchell St.

Multiple police officers can be seen moving into the frame, with a barking canine pulling on the leash of its handler.

“Yeah let the dog go!” jeers a bystander.

Fortunately, Mitchell St partygoers were spared a gruesome ending as the approaching dog’s presence defused the tension, with officers departing the scene with a watchful eye.

Renowned for their detection ability, police dogs can also be used as a show-of-force tactic, as Mitchell St revellers learned on the weekend.
