Cyclist dies on Sunshine Coast after crashing into broken-down truck

Police are calling for any witnesses with dashcam after a cyclist died after slamming into a broken-down truck in Queensland.

Police are appealing for dashcam footage that might reveal the moments leading up to a crash involving a cyclist and a stationary truck that left one man dead on the Sunshine Coast.

A Queensland Police spokesman said emergency services were called to the corner of Caloundra Rd and Pierce Ave, Corbould Park, shortly before at 4.30am on Wednesday.

Initial reports stated the 51-year-old Little Mountain man was in a critical condition after the early morning crash, with paramedics treating him at the scene.

The forensic crash unit is now investigating the cause of the crash.

Despite the efforts of the paramedics, the man has since died from his injuries.

It’s understood the man crashed into a stationary truck, which had broken down at the intersection and possibly been left there overnight.

The truck driver was not at the scene at the time of the incident.

Acting Sergeant Peter Cowan told NCA NewsWire that investigators had asked anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area or who witnessed the incident to contact police.

“It appears that stationary truck has been broken down here for a period of time and has been left here overnight until this incident occurred here in the early hours of this morning,” he said on Wednesday.

“We’re appealing for anyone who travels this road late yesterday evening or early this morning who may have footage of this truck being here.

“We’re very interested in how long its’ been here and the condition it was left here in terms of road user safety.”
