Celebrating the passion and pride of African culture, Cirque Africa are getting ready to bring their critically-acclaimed show to Australia’s east coast.
Having performed for over 2 million people across the world, the circus features acrobats, dancers, musicians and contortionists.
Capturing the vibrant heart of African culture and music, the two-hour show is coming to the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre stage on September 15.

Cirque Africa star Mohamed Pengo is celebrating his second season with the circus and described the stage as his ‘happy place’.

We are really excited to come to Australia; we can’t wait,” he said.

“I really love being in Australia, and I am so happy I get to come back with Cirque Africa.

Mr Pengo’s act in the show sees him balancing on a board placed on rolling pipe, which he adds more and more to, resulting in him balancing on a tower of uneven props.

He said the joy from the audience is what he enjoys the most.

“If the people are enjoying themselves, then I’m enjoying myself,” he said.

“When I’m performing on stage and I see people clapping, laughing and enjoying themselves, it makes me want to give them a beautiful show.”

With members of the group from various different parts of Africa, Mr Pengo said Cirque Africa was unlike any other circus group in the world.

“Most of the people have seen some circus shows before. Our reviews are always different because we bring joy, fun and happiness,” he said.

“You will always be happy and never regret coming to a Cirque Africa show.”

Mr Pengo said that Townsville had a special place in his heart, having visited for previous shows.

“I really love the people in Townsville; they are so friendly and make me feel like I am at home. It’s a beautiful place.”

Cirque Africa will visit Townsville on September 15, with a show at the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre.
