Cotter double seals Cowboys' win against the Broncos in Cairns
Queensland’s premier NRL derby will visit Cairns for the first time today when the North Queensland Cowboys take on the Brisbane Broncos at Barlow Park.

A late Reuben Cotter double has handed North Queensland an 18-16 win against the Broncos at a soggy Barlow Park.
Cotter’s late double, which came courtesy of tries in the 66th and 75th minutes, helped the Cowboys overturn a 16-10 lead into victory at the Cairns venue.
The Cowboys opened the scoring in just the second minute when young gun Connelly Lemuelu crashed over in the second minute.
It didn’t take long for the Broncos to bounce back, as five-eighth Anthony Milford found Jessie Arthars with a beautiful cut-out pass to send the centre over untouched.
Arthers made it a double 20 minutes later after a bullocking run from NRL Rookie of the Year Payne Haas. A quick play the ball had the Cowboys on the back foot, and again Milford found Arthars for the 10-4 halftime lead.
The soggy conditions meant handling wasn’t at the level either coach would have liked, but Cairns fans were treated to a brilliant contest between Queensland premier NRL clubs.
The Cowboys levelled the scores just three minutes after the break through Tom Gilbert, who barged over from short range, but it would be the Broncos who elicited one of the biggest reactions of the night seven minutes later.
Brisbane spread the ball left, finding Herbie Farnworth who zipped down the western touchline. In a three-on-one, he passed inside to find Milford, who streaked away for a try.
Jamayne Isaako’s conversion gave them a 16-10 lead, before Cotter’s late double handed the Cowboys the win in their first game at Barlow Park in two years.
