Coronavirus NSW: 11 new COVID cases with alerts in Auburn, Parramatta

NSW recorded 11 new cases of COVID-19 overnight, including six in the community and three linked to the GP practice in Lakemba. It comes as authorities list a number of trains that confirmed cases travelled on.

Coronavirus can survive for 28 days on everyday surfaces

There are 11 new cases of COVID-19 in Sydney with the NSW government urging more people to get tested and tell the truth about their activities to help contact tracers.

Six of the new cases are local transmissions and five are in hotel quarantine.

Three are linked to the GP practice in Lakemba.

“We’re aiming to have 20,000 [tests] a day and while we have these positive cases amongst us the emphasis Dr Chant and I have is to get tested,” Health Minister Brad Hazzard said.

“One of the ongoing problems we have had in NSW, also in Victoria, is people are not necessarily telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

“We are not interested in your personal activity or other legal issues. Public health needs you, to tell the truth.”

Minister Hazzard urged anyone attending large events on the weekend to treat “everyone else as if they have COVID”.

“Play by the rules make sure you have COVID safe requirements in place and everyone actually attending (follows) it. The fact we have three clusters, two have unknown elements, that’s broadly a red flag for us,” he said.

Of the locally acquired cases, only two of the six do not have a source. These include a man in his 70s in Bargo, 100km southwest of Sydney, and a man in his 50s in southwest Sydney.

In a statement NSW health said they had found the link for most of the known cases.

“Three of the new locally acquired cases are linked to the Lakemba GP cluster, which now has 15 cases in total. All three cases are household contacts of known cases. Contact tracing and investigations into the source of the cluster continue,” it said.

Confirmed cases have recently used public transport and anyone who travelled at the following times is considered a casual contact and must be tested if they develop symptoms.

Victoria records 6 new cases, 14-day average falls

Victoria has recorded six new coronavirus cases and no deaths, as the city’s all important 14-day average fell again.

Regional Victoria’s 14-day average has remained steady at 0.6 as angry and concerned Shepparton locals queued at testing sites from 6am amid fears of an outbreak in the regional city following three positive cases.

Mystery cases in Melbourne have increased by one to 15 since Wednesday, while the 14-day average has fallen slightly from 9.6 to 8.9.

Health authorities say the 14-day average must be about five for the state government to consider easing restrictions on October 19.

The total number of cases in Victoria since the start of the pandemic is now more than 20,310, with the death toll remaining at 816 and 182 active cases as of Wednesday.
