A comedy stage hypnotist is travelling from Britain to Australia to raise money for a children’s charity. Find out what inspired him.

For some, a night drinking Jack Daniel’s could lead to an embarrassing, drunken accident at most.

But for comedy stage hypnotist Ken Webster, a night on the drop was all he needed to decide he would travel from Britain to Darwin without flying.

“My inspiration was one night on Jack Daniel’s … I had the idea and ended up putting it on social media,” he said.

“By the time I woke in the morning I had loads of good luck messages.

“It was too bloody late to back out then.”

Mr Webster began vlogging his journey on his social media profiles on January 23, the day he left Britain, and he expects to reach Darwin by the end of February.

So far travelling exclusively by train, car or bus - though he will need to find a boat to make it to Darwin - Mr Webster’s journey is aiming to raise money for Brian House, a children’s hospice in Blackpool, England.

“They need at least £1.6 million (about $3,181,400) a year to stay open … they get less than £200,000 (about $397,573) from the UK government in funding,” he said.

“They need the funding.”

Mr Webster has raised money for many charities over the years including for the British Heart Foundation and Brian House Children’s Hospice.

After staying in only one star accommodation for most of the trip, Mr Webster, who is currently in Vietnam and working his way down to Bali, said finding safe places to travel was proving challenging.

“Trying to find a route where I may not get my head blown off is proving rather difficult,” he said.

“So I am just going to wing it and hopefully find a safe-ish route.”

Mr Webster said Territorians could show their support by checking out his social media accounts and website.

“I am not asking for money; I simply want you to like and subscribe to my YouTube channel, Tik Tok and Instagram … any money I receive from any social media for this trip will go straight to Brian House,” he said.

“We will never stop needing the support.”
