Townsville’s business travellers reluctant to work from their hotel rooms were being encouraged to take advantage of hot-desks in a modern office set up, ready to be used for just $40 per day.

That’s the fresh deal being offered by the award-winning Co. Habitat Co-Working Space, a business that’s been providing easy, affordable and flexible offices, desks, meeting rooms, training facilities, pod casting equipment, and conference rooms with video conferencing, since 2018.

Riding high on the success that the business has achieved over the past seven years, its director Joshua Roberts recently inked a five-year extension for his lease on the large commercial space on Level 1/ 33-35 Palmer St, South Townsville – in the building formerly known as the Townsville Transit Centre.

Mr Roberts said they had been going “from strength to strength”, especially as word spread over the past year about their meeting room facilities and 120-person conference room, which was securing regular bookings.

“This year, it’s really a focus on getting that everyday hot-desking, and we’ve just started for the first time ever advertising at the Townsville Airport to try and capture some more of those transient workers that might reluctantly work at their hotel room, we can give them a space to work for the day,” Mr Roberts said.

“Hopefully that gets them aware that we’re here for the next time they’re up in town. The (hot-desking) offer is $40 a day, and that allows people access to one of our desks.

“We’ve got 21 hot desks in our shared office space, and that includes access to high speed internet in a professional office space.”

He hoped the hot desk offer would strike a chord with businesses who had remote teams and transient staff doing short stints in North Queensland.

“When I started this business, it was only intended to be small, 200-250 sqm. I never thought we would be 1600 sqm with all the facilities we have available today,” Mr. Roberts said.

“To have navigated the challenges of the past few years (like the) 2019 floods, Covid, rising costs and still be here is a great achievement. I am really excited for what we can continue to achieve in the next five years.”

Mr Roberts had support from iMCommercial sales and leasing agent Tony Parker in securing the lease extension for the building.

“It’s a large floor plate, which could accommodate his numerous tenants that want that office accommodation, whether it’s short stay or long stay,” Mr Parker said.

“(The lease renewal) is good positive news for Palmer St. We’ve welcomed our new tenants Townsville Pizzeria Bar and Grill as well, and are dealing with a couple of other tenants on the site, and are looking to give the site a bit of a face lift.

“We’ve just spent a significant amount of money on carparking (with 90 spaces onsite) and fire compliance.”
